About Chrissy
I have been a watercolor artist and enthusiast for many years, and I absolutely love what I do. To me, art is like coming home. I have never felt more myself than when I am creating art, and that is a passion that I believe is worth sharing.
I am especially inspired by nature. As a child, I had a close relationship with my maternal grandparents. My favorite memories with them involve bird watching and endless summer walks through nature trails. I always begin my paintings with a sketch, and my mind will inevitably drift to these core memories. I find it so rewarding when someone makes a personal connection with my art, because it comes from such a deep and soulful purpose.
I have a career background in architecture and graphic design. The nature of my work in these fields is very structured and objective. So to me, the fickle properties of watercolor is magic. I start with the tight framework of a pencil sketch and apply layer after layer of melty, drippy watercolor. Gold leaf embellishment is the final stage in my process. The mercurial properties of this medium capture the light and transform each painting into a dynamic, interactive experience.
In a way, my art has become an equalizer to balance the left and right side of my brain. I usually have a general idea of the direction I want to take, but to a certain extent, the paint tells me where to go. I am forced to let go of control and fully surrender myself to the process. I find it a healing reminder that if we learn to embrace the unexpected turns in life, learn to view our imperfections as our strengths, the outcome is truly unique and beautiful.
